Commencement

Amridge University would like you to join us during Commencement weekend where we will recognize the academic achievements of the Class of 2015. The information found in this commencement information will assist you and your guests as you make plans to participate in the weekend’s celebration events.

Commencement Information:

Date and Time: Saturday, June 6, 2015.
Students, faculty, and staff should be on-site no later than 8:30 a.m., with Commencement starting at 10:00 a.m. CST.

Location: Davis Theater for the Performing Arts — Montgomery, AL
Located in Downtown Montgomery at 251 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, AL.

Graduation Tea:

You and your family are invited to attend a tea in honor of our graduating students on Friday, June 5, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. CST on the Amridge University Montgomery campus at 1200 Taylor Road. This is a great time for students to meet faculty who helped them through their years of study at Amridge University.

8:30 AM – Arrival and Rehearsal
Gowned and ready for rehearsal

Receive cap and gown in assigned room (a member of the staff will be at the door to direct you) before 8:20 a.m. The CARD included with your cap and gown must be kept at all times. It includes valuable information and marching order.

10:00 AM – Graduation
At this ceremony you will participate in a processional. A message will be delivered, awards presented, and diploma presentation tubes issued. The presentation tube you will receive at the ceremony will be empty. You will be given your diploma after the graduation ceremony.

Degrees Awarded – Graduates will be led by Clayton Schmidt

Proceed to the steps.
Present your CARD to Dr. Kimberly Estep-Adams.
Wait for your name to be announced.
Cross the stage to receive your diploma tube.
Shake hands with Dr. Turner, turn toward the photographer and wait for the picture to be taken.
Shake hands with the Dean of your School.
Descend the steps, go to the back of the theater and return to your seat.

Who’s Who
Names will be called out and graduates will be asked to stand but not walk across the stage.

Special Awards
Names will be called and graduates will go across the stage and accept their award.

Recessional
Dr. Turner will lead recessional followed by guests, faculty and graduates.

Diploma
Exit to preparation room and pick up your diploma at the same table where you received your cap and gown. (Remember! Your family must wait for you to join them in the Davis Theater lobby.)

Caps, Gowns, Hoods

The honor cords awarded at the Amridge University graduation ceremony have specific meaning. Each cord awarded has a required cumulative grade point average for each level of honor.

Cum Laude 3.500-3.699 — red honor cord
Magna Cum Laude 3.700-3.899—gold honor cord
Summa Cum Laude 3.900-4.00—gold honor cord

  • Advanced degree candidates wear hoods.
  • The lining of the Amridge University hood is blue and white, and the velvet border of the hood is red.
  • All candidates will retain their cap, gown and tassel.

Proper Attire and Etiquette

Academic Dress

Amridge University graduation participants will receive a black cap and gown along with a red tassel.

  • Amridge University Policy states that candidates may not alter or decorate their regalia in any way or wear additional articles not sanctioned by the university. Doing so may interfere with your ability to participate in the graduation ceremony. This includes stoles.
  • Tassels are worn on the left side of the graduation cap at all times.
  • Men should wear dark slacks and dark shoes.  Women should wear dark shoes and simple jewelry.

Etiquette

  • No food or drink may be carried into the theater
  • Family may be present at rehearsal in the theater area only
  • Due to space limitations, only graduates may enter preparation area
  • Personal valuables should be left with family
  • Pagers and cell phones must be turned off during the entire ceremony
  • Disability seating areas are for those people with disabilities as defined by the American with Disabilities Act. These areas are not appropriate for strollers and/or large bags.

Diploma Distribution

The presentation tube you will receive at the ceremony will be empty. You will be given your diploma after the graduation ceremony. If you are unable to attend the commencement ceremony, your diploma will be mailed to you.

Interstate 65 South into Montgomery Exit on CLAY STREET (Clay St. is One Way going RIGHT)
Go straight one block and turn LEFT onto HERRON STREET (Herron St. is One Way going LEFT)
Go “up over the hill, around the curve left and down.” The second traffic light is MOLTON STREET.
Turn RIGHT onto MOLTON STREET.
At the next traffic light, you are at the intersection of Molton and Montgomery Streets. The theatre is directly across from you on the left.

Coming from Greenville and other points south of Montgomery:


Interstate 65 North into Montgomery Exit on HERRON STREET (Herron St. is One Way going RIGHT)
Go “up over the hill, around the curve left and down.” The second traffic light is MOLTON STREET.
Turn RIGHT onto MOLTON STREET.
At the next traffic light, you are at the intersection of Molton and Montgomery Streets. The theatre is directly across from you on the left.

Coming from Auburn and other points east of Montgomery:


Interstate 85 South into Montgomery Exit onto Interstate 65 North (Birmingham) ** In the ramp is the HERRON STREET EXIT **
Exit on HERRON STREET (Herron St. is One Way going RIGHT)
Go “up over the hill, around the curve left and down.” The second traffic light is MOLTON STREET.
Turn RIGHT onto MOLTON STREET.
At the next traffic light, you are at the intersection of Molton and Montgomery Streets. The theatre is directly across from you on the left.

Coming from Troy and other points southeast of Montgomery:


Highway 231 North to Montgomery Turn onto Taylor Road (Hwy 271)
Turn on Interstate 85 South into Montgomery
Exit onto Interstate 65 North (Birmingham) ** In the ramp is the HERRON STREET EXIT **
Exit on HERRON STREET (Herron St. is One Way going RIGHT)
Go “up over the hill, around the curve left and down.” The second traffic light is MOLTON STREET.
